About the Artwork:

The Abandoned Mother's House is an original watercolor painting inspired by the Bates house from Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho, reimagined through my Abandoned Collection as a decaying how finally left alone on the hill.

Some houses are haunted long before they're empty.

Not necessarily by ghosts, but by memories... by grief... by things that happened inside them that nobody was ever able to leave behind.

The house in Psycho has always felt like more than a setting. It sits above the motel almost like the past itself... watching, looming, refusing to disappear. Inside it, Norman preserves a relationship that should have ended long ago.

Eventually, the things he refuses to let die begins consuming the person who is still alive.

There's something frighteningly human hidden beneath of that horror...

Most of us aren't keeping bodies in old houses, but we can still build rooms inside ourselves for things that are already gone... an old betrayal... a loss... a childhood wound... a version of ourselves we still can't figure out how to forgive. We revisit them so often that eventually the past stops being somewhere we've been and becomes somewhere we still live.

This painting imagines the house long after Norman is gone. The windows are dark. The structure is deteriorating. Messages of what happened here have been graffitied all over the house almost mockingly... but perhaps for the first time ever, no one is living inside keeping the past alive.

Maybe some things are supposed to become memories... Not because they didn't matter... but because the present and the future will continue to suffer if they don't.

I created this series to reconnect with my inner child. It’s nice to take a second to remember the things I loved when I was younger... Nothing lasts forever, so appreciate things before they’re gone! I hope this collection will help you in a similar way.
