About the Artwork:

The Abandoned Pizza Delivery Truck is an original painting inspired by the Pizza Planet truck from Disney and Pixar's Toy Story, reimagined through my Abandoned Collection as a forgotten delivery truck left behind long after its final journey.

There are some stories we discover as children that somehow grow up with us. We understand them one way when we're young, and then years later we return to them and realize they were telling us something much bigger all along. Toy Story has always been one of those stories for me.

As a kid, I saw a movie about toys coming to life when nobody was looking. I saw friendship, adventure, jealousy, spaceships, moving vans, claw machines, and a beat-up pizza delivery truck helping carry Woody and Buzz back toward the kid they belonged to. The older I get, the more I realize that underneath all of that was a story about something much more difficult: loving things we know we cannot keep forever.

Woody spends so much of the story terrified of being replaced. Buzz has to confront the painful realization that he isn't who he believed himself to be. Again and again, these characters are forced to face changes they did't ask for. New toys arrive... Families move... Children grow up... Bedrooms empty... and eventually, the people who once couldn't imagine life without us learn how to continue living without us.

I think that's what growing up actually feels like.

We spend the beginning of our lives being carried towards things. Toward friendships, experiences, dreams, people, and places we are certain will always be part of us. Then, somewhere along the way, life begins carrying us away from them. The childhood bedroom becomes somebody else's room. Friends we once saw every day become people we occasionally think about. Parents get older. Children grow up. Houses are sold. Toys disappear into boxes. Sometimes we don't even realize a chapter of our lives has ended until we're already far enough away to miss it.

I think that's one of the hardest things I learned from Toy Story: being important to someone doesn't guarantee that you'll always occupy the same place in their life. Sometimes people are meant to carry each other through a particualr chapter. Sometimes loving someone means accepting that their life is supposed to keep moving, even when that movement eventually takes them somewhere you can't follow. 

Being left behind doesn't always mean you didn't matter.

Andy growing up doesn't erase the years Woody spent beside him. A toy sitting untouched in a box doesn't erase the adventures imagined with it. A friendship changing doesn't erase the years when that person was your entire world. An ending doesn't reach backward through time and make everything that came before it meaningless.

Thats why I wanted to leave this truck here.

Like many other pieces in my Abandoned Collection, this painting let time touch something that our memories would have preferred to keep preserved. But with this one, I think I see much more than just an abandoned vehicle. I see all the things that carried us somewhere and couldn't come with us any further. 

Eventually, every childhood ends. Every bedroom empties. Every toy gets put down. Every person we love changes, and so do we.

We don't get to keep anything we love forever... and maybe we're not supposed to.

Maybe part of loving something is allowing it to become part of who we are, carrying it with us for as long as we can, and eventually finding the courage to say goodbye without pretending that goodbye means it didn't matter. 

Some things are only with us for a part of the journey, but sometimes that part changes the entire direction of our lives.

I created this series to reconnect with my inner child. It’s nice to take a second to remember the things I loved when I was younger... Nothing lasts forever, so appreciate things before they’re gone! I hope this collection will help you in a similar way.
