About the Artwork:

The Abandoned Mystery Van #1 is an original illustration inspired by the Mystery Machine from Scooby-Doo, reimagined through my Abandoned Collection as a forgotten van left behind after its final mystery was solved.

For all of the monsters, ghosts, villains, disguises, traps, and mysteries surrounding it, maybe the most important thing this van ever carried was simply a group of friends. 

They went everywhere together... packed into the same vehicle... driving toward another strange place... eating together... arguing... getting scared... getting lost... and somehow always finding their way into another adventure.

When we're young, friendships can feel permanent that way. There is always another weekend... another night... another trip... another reason to pile into someone's car and go somewhere!

We rarely stop to consider that someday getting everyone together will become difficult.

But people move away, relationships begin, families grow, careers become demanding, responsibilities multiply, and eventually, the group of people who once seemed inseparable can find themselves living completely different lives.

This painting imagines the van long after all of that has happened.

The doors haven't opened in years... nobody is arguing about where to go next... nobody is sitting in the back... nobody is hungry... or scared... and there isn't another mystery waiting at the end of the road.

The van remains, but the gang has split up.

Like much of my Abandoned Collection does, this painting has infected something sacred with time.

Sometimes vehicles aren't just vehicles... they are time capsules that hold onto echoes of entire sections of our lives.

The vehicle that was reserved for roadtrips...

Its hard to forget fitting everyone into that backseat, or the songs we all sang together, or the conversations that only made sense to the people who were there... we were just going somewhere at the time... but then years passed by and eventually we realized we weren't just going somewhere... we were driving through a memory that we would someday miss. Living a part of our lives we would never forget.

That's the cruel thing about the last adventure...

Nobody realizes its the last one. There isn't a final mystery. Nobody rolls the credits. One day we all just get out of the van and for reasons nobody completely understands, we just never all get back in.

I created this series to reconnect with my inner child. It’s nice to take a second to remember the things I loved when I was younger... Nothing lasts forever, so appreciate things before they’re gone! I hope this collection will help you in a similar way.
