About the Artwork:

The Abandoned Revival Van is an original watercolor painting inspired by the Reboot Van from Fortnite, reimagined through my Abandoned Collection as a forgotten machine left behind inside a game that somehow never ended.

The match appears to be over, but something feels wrong... Weapons and supplies have been left scattered across the ground. A broken healing potion sits among the debris. A Victory Crown has been abandoned by whoever once earned it. The van is weathered and covered in messages from players who seem to have disappeared long ago.

Across the windshield, someone has graffitied three letter: "SOS"

In Fortnite the Reboot Van represents another chance. When someone on your team gets eliminated, they don't necessarily have to stay gone. If their teamates make it back to the van, they can bring them into the game again.

But my painting imagines a world where nobody came back.

Maybe the storm never completely closed in. Maybe the final player was never eliminated. Maybe somewhere beyond the edge of the painting, somebody is still wandering through an empty map waiting for teammates to logged off years ago.

There's something strangely haunting about that idea. Games are built around the promise that we can always try again. Lose the match... start over. Get eliminated... respawn. Make a mistake... reset.

Real life doesn't always give us that luxury.

Sometimes people leave without giving us closure. Sometimes friendships end without a final conversation. Sometimes we wait for someone to come back long after they've already moved on. Sometimes we find ourselves asking to be rescued before realizing nobody else knows we're still waiting. 

Maybe eventually we have to stop waiting for someone else to reboot us.

Like much of my Abandoned Collection, this painting took something that has been preserved by our imagination and let time reach a world that was designed to constantly begin again. The loot has become useless. The crown doesn't mean anything anymore if the game doesn't ever start over.

Maybe somebody is still in there waiting to be saved... or maybe they're finally realizing they'll have to find their own way out.
