About the Artwork:
The Abandoned Crystal Camper is an original painting inspired by the infamous RV from Breaking Bad, reimagined through my Abandoned Collection as a burned out laboratory left out to rot away under the desert sun.
The camper is rusted, broken, and partially destroyed by fire, as though whatever happened inside eventually consumed the thing that contained it. Remnants of another life are scattered through the sand... the yellow suit, blue crystal, an old teddy bear, a gun, and pieces of a story that has already reached its end.
Across the side of the RV, someone has graffitied a single word:
"FAMILY"
There are a few things more dangerous than a good reason for doing something bad.
Walter White began with what sounded like one of the best reasons imaginable. He was dying. His family needed money. He wanted to leave something behind for the people he loved.
But somewhere along the way, providing became power. Necessity became ambition. Survival became pride. The reason remained the same long after the person using it had begun to change.
Maybe that's one of the hardest things about understanding ourselves. We are remarkably good at creating noble explanations for the things we already want to do.
"I'm doing it for my family."
"I'm doing it because I have to."
"I'm doing this for our future."
Sometimes those things are true. Sometimes they're only true enough to keep us from asking the harder quetion:
"What is this turning me into?"
This painting imagines the Crystal Camper after everything has burned itself out. The money is meaningless. The product has been abandoned in the dirt. The empire is gone. Painted across the ruins is the justification that started everything.
Maybe intentions matter... but they don't protect us from consequences. Eventually, we become responsible not only for why we started down a road, but for who we became while traveling it.
The Abandoned Crystal Camper is an independent artistic interpretation inspired by the RV and the world of Breaking Bad and is not affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by Breaking Bad, AMC, Sony Pictures Television, or their respective rights holders.
I created this series to reconnect with my inner child. It’s nice to take a second to remember the things I loved when I was younger... Nothing lasts forever, so appreciate things before they’re gone! I hope this collection will help you in a similar way.
