About the Artwork:
The Abandoned House in Nowhere is an original illustration inspired by the iconic farmhouse from Courage the Cowardly Dog, reimagined through my Abandoned Collection as an empty house left alone in the middle of Nowhere long after the family inside disappeared.
Courage was afraid of almost everything. Monsters, ghosts, aliens, demons, strangers, weird noises at night... living in that little farmhouse seemed to provide an endless supply of reasons to be terrified.
And yet, whenever Muriel was in danger, Courage went toward the thing he was afraid of.
I think that's what makes his name so perfect. Courage was never fearless. He shook, screamed, panicked, and desperately wanted to run away, but when someone he loved needed him, fear didn't get the final say.
That's all courage actually is. Not the absence of fear, but the ability to overcome it.
We sometimes imagine brave people as people who aren't ever scared. Some of the bravest things we'll ever do happen while we're terrified. Starting over... loving someone... becoming a parent... chasing something we might fail at... standing up for someone... walking into a hospital room... saying goodbye... Continuing forward when we have absolutely no idea what's waiting for us.
This painting is what remains of the farmhouse after it's been thrown deep into the passage of time. The wind still moves through the fields, but nobody is inside. Muriel isn't sitting in her chair. Eustace isn't complaining. There is no frightened little dog running toward another impossible danger because somebody he loves needs him.
Like many illustrations in my Abandoned Collection, this painting has taken something that was never intended to exist on a normal time line and subjected it to decay. But when I look at this empty house, I don't think Courage's fear is what remains with me...
I think about all the times he was afraid and did it anyway. Courage was never the absence of fear, it was choosing that something else matters more.

I created this series to reconnect with my inner child. It’s nice to take a second to remember the things I loved when I was younger... Nothing lasts forever, so appreciate things before they’re gone! I hope this collection will help you in a similar way.
