About the Artwork:

The Abandoned Cum Bucket is an original watercolor painting inspired by the Chum Bucket from SpongeBob Squarepants, reimagined through my Abandoned Collection as Plankton's perpetually unsuccessful restaurant left to decay long after its final attempt at stealing the secret formula. 

Time hasn't been particularly kind to this place. The windows are broken, the building is deteriorating, and caution tape surrounds the property as if something terrible happened here. At some point, even the letter H fell of the sign and landed on the ground out front.

Unfortunately, that means the building now says something else... I'll let you figure that out.

The Chum Bucket was always funny because it was almost impressively unsuccessful. Across the street, the Krusty Krab had customers, popularity, and the one thing Plankton desperately wanted. Meanwhile, his own restaurant sat practically empty while he dedicated enormous amounts of energy to trying to steal someone else's secret. 

There's something surprisingly human hiding underneath that joke. Sometimes we become so obsessed with what somebody else has that we stop asking what we could build ourselves. We compare careers, money, talent, relationships, followers, recognition, and success. Eventually, another person's life can become the measuring stick we use to determine whether our own is good enough.

Plankton rarely needed a better plan to steal the Krabby Patty formula. Maybe he needed to stop looking across the street.

In this painting, I imagined what happens when all the chasing finally ends... The schemes are over. The restaurant is empty. The property has been taped off like a forgotten crime scene, and the evidence of a lifetime spent pursuing somebody else's success has been left exactly where it fell.

Maybe that was the real crime... Not failing. Not having an empty restaurant. The real failure was spending so much of your own life looking across the street that you forgot to build something worth staying for on your side of it. 

Like many painting in my Abandoned Collection, this piece took a place that has been seemingly preserved forever in our imaginations and threw it deep into the passage of time. This one also makes me laugh, because apparently time didn't just abandon the Chum Bucket...

It took the H with it.

I created this series to reconnect with my inner child. It’s nice to take a second to remember the things I loved when I was younger... Nothing lasts forever, so appreciate things before they’re gone! I hope this collection will help you in a similar way.
