About the Artwork:

The Abandoned Plastic Convertible is an original painting inspired by Barbie's iconic pink car, reimagined through my Abandoned Collection as a once-perfect convertible left to decay, with one word graffitied across its side: "FAKE"

We spend a lot of our lives being shown what perfect is supposed to look like. The perfect body... The perfect house... The perfect career... The perfect relationship... The perfect family... The perfect life. Somewhere along the way, it's easy to start measuring ourselves against those images and wondering why our own lives don't look quite as pristine.

But perfection has always looked a little better in plastic.

Real people get older. Real bodies change. Real relationships are complicated. Real houses get messy. Real careers take unexpected turns. We make mistakes, change our minds, disappoint ourselves, fail at things, start over, and carry scars from places we've been.

Maybe those aren't defects... maybe our imperfections are what make us real.

In this painting I wanted to imagine this symbol of manufactured perfection after the illusion has fallen apart. The plastic is weathered. The shine is gone. The fantasy has been abandoned... and written across the side is the word that perhaps was there metaphorically all along: "FAKE"

I don't think there's anything wrong with wanting more from ourselves. We should dream, grow, work hard, and become better. Just remember there's a difference between pursuing something meaningful and punishing ourselves because our actual lives don't resemble an imaginary version of perfection.

Sometimes the standard we're failing to reach was never real in the first place.

Similar to most paintings in my Abandoned Collection, this piece allows time to destroy something our memories have kept pristine... but maybe there's freedom in watching perfection fall apart.

Maybe we don't need to become perfect. Maybe we need to become more honest about what it means to be human...

Flawed. Weathered. Unfinished. Impermanent.

Maybe that's what perfect really is for us. Maybe that's what makes us REAL.

The Abandoned Plastic Convertible is an independent artistic interpretation inspired by Barbie's pink convertible and the world of Barbie and is not affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by Mattel, Barbie, or its respective rights holders.

I created this series to reconnect with my inner child. It’s nice to take a second to remember the things I loved when I was younger... Nothing lasts forever, so appreciate things before they’re gone! I hope this collection will help you in a similar way.
