About the Artwork:

The Abandoned Hero Tower is an original illustration inspired by the Titans Tower from Teen Titans, reimagined through my Abandoned Collection as an empty island headquarters left behind long after the young heroes who once called it home grew up and went their separate ways.

There was something unusual about Titans Tower. From the outside, it was a superhero headquarters filled with technology, training rooms, alarms, and everything necessary to protect a city... but inside, it often felt much more like a house full of kids trying to figure out who they were.

They fought villains together, but they also fought with each other. They ate pizza, played video games, told jokes, got jealous, fell in love, made mistakes, hurt each other, forgave each other, and somehow became a family despite being incredibly different people. 

This is long after that chapter ended. The alarms have stopped. The training room is empty. Nobody is arguing over the television. Nobody is sitting on the couch. There are no footsteps in the hallway and no voices coming from the other room. The building is still there, but its just not the same place without the souls that used to fill it. 

I think most of us have a place like that somewhere in our lives. 

Maybe it was a childhood home, a college apartment, a first workplace, a studio, a friend's basement, or some terrible little rental house we could barely afford. At the time, it was simply where life was happening. We rarely understood that we were inside a chapter that we would one day miss. There were people we saw so often that it seemed impossible to imagine not knowing what they were doing every day.

Then everybody started becoming themselves.

That's one of the contradictions of growing up... The people who help us become who we are aren't always the people who remain beside us once we've become that person.

I think thats why this illustration feels so sad to me... These weren't fully formed heroes who happened to share a headquarters. They were young people becoming themselves beside one another. They witnessed versions of each other that the rest of the world would never know. They mistakes, the insecurities, the stupid jokes, the heartbreaks, and all the ordinary moments between battles.

Maybe an empty tower doesn't necessarily mean something went wrong... Maybe they just grew up.

Maybe eventually there wasn't enough room for five different lives inside one building. Maybe the people who once needed each other every day learned how to stand on their own. Maybe they still loved each other even after life stopped putting them in the same room

Growing apart and falling apart aren't always the same thing.

Sometimes a place becomes empty because it did exactly what it was supposed to do. It gave a group of people somewhere to belong while they were still figuring out where they belonged in the world.

Maybe that's why certain places remain so important to us long after we've left them... We aren't always missing the building. Sometimes we're missing the version of ourselves who still had everyone we loved under the same roof.

I created this series to reconnect with my inner child. It’s nice to take a second to remember the things I loved when I was younger... Nothing lasts forever, so appreciate things before they’re gone! I hope this collection will help you in a similar way.
