About the Artwork:

The Abandoned Dinosaur Wagon is an original painting inspired by the Reptar Wagon from Rugrats, reimagined through my Abandoned Collection as a forgotten childhood toy left behind long after its final adventure.

When we're children, ordinary objects have an incredible ability to become something more... a cardboard box can become a spaceship... a blanket can become a fortress... a backyard can become an unexplored world... and a little wagon shaped like a dinosaur can carry you to somewhere much further than its wheels could ever actually take you.

Maybe that's one of the strange things we lose as we grow older. We begin to understand what things are supposed to be... a wagon becomes just a wagon... a box becomes something we throw away... the backyard becomes something that needs to be mowed...

And little by little, the enormous worlds we once built inside ordinary things begin to disappear. 

My painting imagines this dinosaur wagon after the children have all finally grown up.

Nobody climbs inside of it anymore... no one is pushing it into another imaginary destination... The adventures have ended.

And something that once carried an entire world of childhood imagination has been left behind to rust.

Like much of my Abandoned Collection, this painting explores what happens when time is allowed to reach the objects that were intended to be kept preserved in our memories forever. Because childhood doesn't usually announce when it's ending... There's not usually one final adventure...

We don't know when we're playing with something for the last time... Once day we simply put the toy down. And eventually, we just never pick it back up. Years later, the object may seem insignificant and meaningless, but once upon a time, it was capable of becoming whatever we needed it to be. 

Maybe growing up isn't about losing our imagination... maybe we just forget how much meaning we used to give to ordinary things. 

Never grow up!

I created this series to reconnect with my inner child. It’s nice to take a second to remember the things I loved when I was younger... Nothing lasts forever, so appreciate things before they’re gone! I hope this collection will help you in a similar way.
