The people speak differently... He doesn't understand the rules... Home feels impossibly far away... and every time he thinks he's finally found a way out, somehow he misses the bus again.

It's funny how differently that story feels when you're older...

Sometimes life takes one unexpected turn and suddenly we don't recognize where we are anymore. A relationship ends... a career falls apart... we lose someone... we make a costly mistake... and we become someone we never expected to become. At times we might find ourselves looking around wondering how the hell we got here.

Sometimes we hit rock bottom.

I wanted to paint this bus stop long after it had been escaped from. Nobody is waiting beneath the sign. No headlights are approaching in the distance. Whatever route once connected this strange place to somewhere else seems to have disappeared completely.

In the original story told us something I think is very important: SpongeBob does find his way back home.

Not because everything suddenly becomes familiar, and not because another bus finally arrives exactly when he wants it to... Help comes from someone he initially doesn't understand, in a way he never expected.

Maybe that's the part worth remembering when we find ourselves waiting at our own version of Rock Bottom.

Being somewhere you never intended to be doesn't mean you're supposed to stay there forever. Missing one way out doesn't mean there won't be another. Sometimes the thing that carries us back toward ourselves won't look anything like the rescue we were waiting for.

Like many other paintings in my Abandoned Collection, this piece introduces our stubborn passage of time to a place that has been seemingly preserved forever in our timeless imaginations... but I think this one has a different tone. This one's not a sad painting... it's hopeful. This abandoned place isn't about being lost... it's more about being found again.

Maybe this one's reminding us that even from rock bottom, there is still a way up. Nothing lasts forever... and sometimes thats not so depressing.

The Abandoned Deep Sea Bus Stop is an independent artistic interpretation inspired by the Rock Bottom bus stop from SpongeBob SquarePaints and is not affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by Nickelodeon, Paramount, SpongeBob SquarePants, or its respective rights holders.

I created this series to reconnect with my inner child. It’s nice to take a second to remember the things I loved when I was younger... Nothing lasts forever, so appreciate things before they’re gone! I hope this collection will help you in a similar way.

Print Details

Unframed

8 × 10 inches

Free shipping within the U.S.

International shipping costs are calculated at checkout

Thank you for supporting our family and helping independent art thrive

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0814/9840/7164/files/The_Abandoned_Deep_Sea_Bus_Stop_._8x10_._Prodigi.jpg?v=1788472146
